Fiber Optic Internet
Fiber Optic Internet Has Made Its Way Mainstream
and Into Our Neighborhood!
Carpentersville has joined many of its surrounding communities
by adding fiber optic internet as an option for residents!
Why fiber optic? With the constant change in technology, it’s of no surprise that fiber optic has become an option, alongside WiFi internet, in offering high, secure internet speeds.
What does this mean? Residents of Carpentersville will now have the option to upgrade their internet services but before this can happen, fiber optic cables must be installed in the area by internet providers competing for your business!
How does this affect you? New technology requires the installation of innovative tools and equipment to support the fiber optic internet. You may have noticed contractors in your area actively working around your home. While it may seem like a nuisance, their presence means that fiber optic is, or will soon be offered in your area.
Where can a utility company construct work? Prior to beginning work, utility companies must obtain a permit from the Village which includes the intended scope of work and suggested project areas. Once approved by the Village, the permit only allows work to take place in the public right-of-way (located in front of your property) or in the public utility easement (located in the rear/sideyard of your property) where access is gained through a resident’s property. The public utility easements contain utilities such as ComEd, Comcast, and AT&T. In certain events, excavations may be required in the public right-of-way and/or the public utility easement, with the reassurance that full restoration will take place by the utility company after the work has completed.
Questions and Concerns? Although permits are reviewed by the Village, utility work is not part of Village improvement projects and any questions and concerns are to be handled by the utility company completing the work. The Village has been reassured that residents will have sufficient communications prior to and during construction. So keep a look out in your mail for any postcards, correspondences, or doorhangers!
