Housing Repair Programs
The Village offers several programs to support homeowners in making essential code-correcting renovations and repairs to their properties. We understand that maintaining a home can be challenging, especially for those facing financial constraints, and we are committed to providing assistance that enhances the quality of life within our community.
Village Programs:
Final Plat of Survey Cost Assistance Program - This program specifically targets properties with original plats dating back to the 1950s and 1960s. These older plats often lack essential details regarding improvements made over the last twenty years, including additions such as detached garages, sheds, and patios. We encourage all property owners with older plats to take advantage of this valuable program. Eligible participants can apply for up to $300 in assistance to cover the costs of obtaining a new plat of survey. See the application below for more information:

Our Village offers additional programs for residents needing more assistance than those listed above. These programs are designed to help with community risk reduction. For more information, please visit the link below:

Habitat for Humanity Programs:
A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) program serves to provide minor exterior repair services to prevent houses from deteriorating, protect affordable housing stock in our communities, and ensure families live in safe, healthy, and well-maintained homes by offering painting, landscaping, and minor exterior repair services for low-income homeowners. Work is done by groups of 10-20 volunteers during summer months under the supervision of a Habitat for Humanity staff member.
Critical Home Repair (CHR) & Homeowner Assistance Fund Home Repair (HAFHR) programs serve low-income homeowners by delivering home repairs necessary to address code violations and restore safe living conditions. The program provides major interior and exterior repairs including roof replacement, electrical wiring upgrades, as well as mechanical equipment replacement such as furnaces and water heaters.
Aging in Place (AIP) makes safe and functional home modification repairs and renovations to meet the needs of low-income elderly or disabled homeowners. Repairs and renovations include the installation of accessibility ramps, walk-in bathtubs, and handrails, as well as upgraded lighting, levered door handles, wider door openings, and the elimination of trip hazards. These modifications allow seniors to enter, exit, and live in their homes more safely and independently.
Cost recovery: Up to 25% of the repair cost and 100% of the permit fee is paid by the homeowner, depending on which of the above programs are utilized.
