Business License Types
- For businesses that have any sort of coin-operated amusement devices like billiards and pool tables. Also for businesses with arcade games.
- Fill out the General Business License Application (PDF) and email it to licenses@cville.org
- Be sure to include how many coin-operated amusement devices you will have on premise.
- For more information, please see Chapter 5.16 of our Village Code.
- Our business licenses are valid for the calendar year, from 1/1/20XX - 12/31/20XX.
- Any business with a physical presence and/or mailing address in Carpentersville needs to obtain a business license. Additionally, businesses who operate, engage in, or conduct business in the village need a license. If you have a business based out of your home, please see the next tab for "Home-Based Business License".
- Some businesses and professions are considered exempt from licensing - however, they still need to register with the Village and pay an administrative fee.
- Fill out the General Business License and Registration Application (PDF) and email it to licenses@cville.org
- Submit a Certificate of Occupancy Application (PDF) if your business is going into an existing structure or a Building Permit Application (PDF) if your business location is new construction. These can be emailed to permits@cville.org
- Note: Contractors do not need a business license or registration for projects unless they are a Carpentersville-based business.

- Any business, including one operated out of a home, which has a physical presence and/or mailing address in Carpentersville needs to obtain a home-based business license.
- Fill out the General Business License Application (PDF) and email it to licenses@cville.org
- Please make sure you are familiar with our local ordinances related to Home Occupations which are found in Chapter 16.18.020 of our village code.
- Home Occupation standards are listed under 16.18.020 > A. > #6
- Our business licenses are valid for the calendar year, from 1/1/20XX - 12/31/20XX.
- Any person engaging in business in the village for a period of time 100 days or less is considered an itinerant merchant.

- Fill out the Itinerant Merchant License Application (PDF) and send it to licenses@cville.org

- Please contact the Community Development Coordinator at licenses@cville.org with any inquiries into applying for a new liquor license or by calling Community Development at 847-551-3478.
- Any Liquor License Application (PDF) will be reviewed by Community Development, and then submitted to the Liquor Commissioner and Village Board. Any new liquor license will need to be approved by the Village Board at a future Village Board meeting. Please review our Municipal Code regarding liquor license applications and classifications for further information on specific details.

- Any organization that offers or sells chances or conducts a drawing for a raffle within the the village must obtain a raffle license.
- Fill out the Raffle License Application (PDF) and submit it to licenses@cville.org
- Please see Chapter 5.18 of the village code regarding what types of organizations are eligible for a raffle license, parameters around the issuance of a raffle license, and the conduct of raffles.
Rental Licenses are handled by the Community Development Team in conjunction with the Carpentersville Police Department. Below is a summary of the steps you will take to get a rental license for your residential property.

- Schedule Temporary Inspection
- Schedule and Attend Crime Free Housing Seminar
- Schedule Any Compliance Inspections
- Receive Rental License
