Fire Prevention Bureau
The Fire Prevention Bureau is dedicated to ensuring safety within the community through regular inspections and educational initiatives. All businesses and educational facilities in Carpentersville are inspected at least once annually, with more frequent checks based on business type. The Bureau also provides safety seminars, including fire extinguisher demonstrations, to local businesses.
Emergency Medical Services
The Carpentersville Fire Department offers Advanced Life Support care to residents of the Village and surrounding rural areas. Annually, the department responds to over 2,000 medical calls.
Public Education & Fire Safety Programs
The Public Education Division continually expands its programs to teach fire safety across all age groups. Programs range from general fire safety classes to more specialized initiatives, which help parents and communities recognize and address children's fire-setting behaviors. This program highlights the importance of early intervention to prevent potential tragedy, as over 30% of fatal fires involving children are caused by children playing with fire.
Youth Firesetting Intervention Program
The Youth Fire Setter Intervention Program is a statewide standardized program to provide prevention education/intervention and referrals, if warranted, for the children and families of Illinois to reduce the frequency and severity of fires set by youths. Home Safety Surveys
The Fire Department offers free Home Safety Surveys to help identify potential life safety hazards in your home. The survey covers smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire escape planning, and fire extinguisher placement. To schedule, contact Firefighter Tony Ferreiro at 847-426-2131.
Seniors Program
As fire deaths among seniors have increased statewide, the Fire Department offers specialized fire safety classes for seniors, addressing their unique needs.
Keep the Wreath Red Program
During the Christmas season, the Fire Department displays a wreath with red bulbs. If a fire occurs caused by Christmas decorations, a bulb is changed to white, highlighting the importance of holiday fire safety.
Fire Station Tours & Block Parties
All three fire stations are open for tours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Groups can schedule a tour by calling 847-426-2131. The Fire Department also attends block parties upon request, though advance notice is required, and attendance may be limited by emergency responses.
Fire Suppression & Rescue Operations
In addition to fire suppression, the Fire Department is trained in various rescue operations, including below-grade rescue, confined space rescue, water rescue/recovery, auto extrication, and high-angle rescue.
Emergency Services & Disaster Preparedness
The Fire Department oversees the Village's Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, ensuring the community is prepared for natural disasters. This includes monthly checks of civil defense sirens and updates to the Village's Disaster Preparedness Plan.
