FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 7, 2025
Carpentersville Man Charged with Armed Violence, Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer
RE: Deshawn Jones: Age 32 (d.o.b. 3-25-1993), of the 100 block of Woodland Court, Carpentersville, Illinois. Case No. 2025CF2111.
St. Charles, Ill. - Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Carpentersville Chief of Police Todd Shaver announce that Deshawn Jones is charged with the offenses of:
- Armed Violence, Class X felony (4 counts)
- Possessing a Controlled Substance, Class 4 felony
- Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Class 4 felony (2 counts)
- Aggravated Assault Using a Firearm Against a Peace Officer, Class 4 felony (2 counts)
- Obstructing a Police Officer
State’s Attorney Mosser alleges that on August 28, 2025, Jones called 911 three times asking for assistance. Carpentersville Police Officers responded to the home of Jones. Jones and his adult brother were the only ones in the home when they arrived. Paramedics were called to assist Jones. While in the home, officers found a weapon near suspected cocaine. Jones, after refusing treatment from paramedics, retreated into a bedroom where officers followed. Officers gave him commands to come out of the bedroom. Jones, ignoring those commands, armed himself with a black revolver taken from a bedroom closet while in the presence of police officers performing their official duties. Fearing for their safety and others, officers fired upon Jones while retreating from the bedroom. Jones was struck by the bullets, eventually surrendered and was transported for medical treatment. In addition to the initial gun found, and the gun that Jones armed himself with, officers also found an AK-47.
On October 6, Jones was discharged from the hospital and moved to the Kane County jail. On October 7, Jones appeared in court for a pretrial detention hearing, during which the State argued for his detention. Granting the State’s petition, the Court ordered Jones detained in the custody of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office while his case is pending. Jones’s next court date is set for October 17, 2025 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 211 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
The charges against Jones are not proof of guilt. Jones is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Pursuant to the Illinois Police and Community Relations Act, any officer-involved shooting must be investigated by an independent agency and then reviewed by the State’s Attorney’s Office. The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is currently completing their investigation to submit to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
