The Engineering Department is responsible for overseeing various capital improvement (sidewalk replacement, street resurfacing and reconstruction, underground utility replacement and rehabilitation) projects undertaken by the Village, along with coordination of capital improvement projects performed by other County and State agencies. Projects noted with an asterisk have design engineering performed by in-house staff, and projects noted with two asterisks have construction engineering performed by in-house staff.


The Engineering Department is also responsible for the design, review, construction inspection, and acceptance of the installation of public improvements in residential, commercial, and industrial developments, including the management and tracking of developer guarantees from approval of the final plat of subdivision through the end of maintenance and acceptance of the development by the Village.


The primary functions of the Engineering Department include development plan review, capital project administration, construction observation and mapping. The Engineering Department works to ensure that public and private infrastructure is properly designed and constructed, this includes:

  • Sanitary sewers
  • Sidewalks
  • Storm sewers
  • Storm water management basins
  • Street lighting
  • Streets
  • Water mains

 New infrastructure is added to the Village as part of residential and commercial development and through the Village's own capital improvement projects.

Records Management

The Engineering Department maintains utility records and mapping information for public infrastructure. This information includes plans and plats for subdivisions and plans and records for capital projects. A computer-aided drafting (CAD) system is utilized to maintain some zoning and lot information for the Village.
